OUR GARDENS

Eight years ago in September 2003, we bought our lot.  A bulldozer had leveled the site and just a few weeds and patches of thin grass were left.  We had several trees planted.  For awhile we had all the concrete furnishing from my old house out in the far back of the yard.  It looked like a cheap roadside concrete truck sale.  Pretty sad but lots of promise.

Then we went to work.  I designed the layout of the garden structures.  We had the concrete poured by professionals.  My husband designed and built the pavallion at the back of the yard.  I designed the patio between the house and the garage.  A sidewalk went directly out from the end of the patio.  In the middle of the yard it turned into a circle which then extended out in four directions, east, west, north and south.  Behind the garage we built what we call a bricked terrace.  My husband laid brick on top of the concrete bed.  A 1,100 bricks in the middle of summer.  My Hero.  Next we defined the beds and then put in 18 pallets of grass.  That started the beginning of a never ending evolving garden.  A place of beauty and refuge.  A place for our dogs and foster dogs to play.  A place to soak up the beauty of God's creation.  A place of renewal and a good old physical workout.

I believe that pictures will speak better than words for this page.  So here is where we start.

And here is where we are today in summer 2010.

The garden continues to grow and change.  It sure is nice to just go sit in the garden.  Especially after working in the garden.
